Found walnut branch, plaster 2-part molds, plaster walnuts

Here, a found branch from a diseased black walnut tree produces walnuts once again through human intervention and the process of mold making.

Molds are negative forms used to shape casting materials, creating multiples of the object from which the mold was made. While the resultant duplicates can appear nearly identical, the touch of a human hand is overtly present in the technique.

A pile of plaster walnuts are the product of human hands and 2-part cube molds. Molds are positioned so that their negative space might fill the empty spot where a walnut originally grew on the branch. Plaster and human hands have intervened in the death of the branch, supporting its rebirth.
